           Most of the guests arrived thinking they were coming over for a casual get together. Maybe a BBQ. Maybe a family celebration.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           They weren’t wrong.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           They just didn’t know it was also a wedding.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Kate and Kevin chose an intimate, surprise ceremony at home, not for the shock factor, but because it felt like the most natural way to do it. No big build up. No pressure. Just the people they love, in a place that already held a lot of life.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           And honestly, that choice set the tone for everything.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;h4&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           They Chose a Space That Already Meant Something
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/h4&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           This wasn’t a blank venue or a styled backdrop. It was a family home. One that had already seen decades of memories, milestones, hard seasons and good ones.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           So instead of trying to “create a vibe”, we simply let the space do what it already knew how to do: hold people.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           The ceremony didn’t interrupt the day. It fit into it.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;h4&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           What Mattered Most to Them
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/h4&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           When we talked about the ceremony, Kate and Kevin were clear on a few things:
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           · They didn’t want to perform their love
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           · They wanted their guests present, not watching through phones
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           · They wanted it calm, warm and genuinely meaningful
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           · And they wanted family to feel acknowledged without turning the moment into a production
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           So that’s exactly how we shaped it.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Phones away. Guests gently guided. A little laughter early on to ease the nerves and soften the mood.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Nothing showy. Nothing awkward. Just relaxed and intentional.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;h4&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Keeping It Simple (On Purpose)
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/h4&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Kate and Kevin chose to share legal vows only, and that choice made perfect sense for them.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           No pressure to publicly explain their relationship. No reading something deeply personal into a microphone. Just clear, meaningful words spoken with intention.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           The legal elements were woven in naturally, the pacing stayed unhurried, and the ceremony flowed without anyone feeling like they were being “taken through the motions”.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Simple doesn’t mean empty. It means focused.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;h4&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Honouring What the Day Held
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/h4&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           This day wasn’t just about getting married, and we made space to acknowledge that.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           There was strength to celebrate, after a family journey through illness and healing. There was new life to acknowledge, with the recent arrival of a beautiful baby. And there was love. Steady, chosen, and deeply settled love right at the centre of it all.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           No long explanations. No spotlight moments. Just a pause to recognise what mattered.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;h4&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Their Love, As It Is
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/h4&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Kate and Kevin’s love isn’t loud.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           It’s calm. Certain. Grounded.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           This ceremony didn’t try to dress it up or explain it away. It simply held the space for it to be felt.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           When the vows were spoken, when the rings were exchanged, when they were pronounced married ~ it all landed softly. And powerfully.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Exactly as it should.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;h4&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           The Takeaway

           As a celebrant, I’m lucky enough to witness some of the most joyful, emotional, and unforgettable moments in people’s lives. But one of my favourite moments actually happens well before the ceremony, the vows, or the big entrance down the aisle.

  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;

            It happens when a couple sits down with me to sign their

           At first glance, it might just seem like paperwork. A form to fill in. A legal requirement to tick off the list. But in truth? It’s so much more than that.

            Once you have followed this groovy formula and locked in your trustworthy vendors, you can kick back and enjoy every moment of your engagement and look forward to your big day!

            If you have been dreaming of this moment for some time, or you are of Generation Z era, you may already be streets ahead with your vendor research prior to getting engaged. If this is the case, you may very well have your heart set on one (or two) vendors already. So, to avoid disappointment, book these first -

           At this point you may also like to consider the vendors that can only be at the one location at a time – your dream venue may only be able to host one ceremony for the day, photographers are often solo and booked to be with couples for a lengthy duration, and authorised celebrants are usually booked to officiate one ceremony at a time.

           This is where ‘time’ plays an important role in your wedding planning process – you may already have a date in mind; however, your venue of choice may not be available on that date. It may be a popular venue, especially during peak season, so get in quick – most of these will be booked solidly for 12 – 18 months in advance.

  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;

           If you are choosing a venue that requires an external catering vendor, then you will want to choose your preferred caterer and lock them in at the same time – this allows them to work with the venue from the get-go.

    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;

           3. Wedding Planner - (12 months in advance)

           Wedding planners are the ultimate multitaskers and if you are going to use one, they will be one of the very first vendors that you will want to lock in. A good wedding planner will also have insight into other reputable vendors that may sight your style and be able to book them on your behalf.

  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;

           4. Photographer / Videographer - (12 months in advance)

           Wedding photographers and videographers are generally booked out 12 – 18 months in advance. Most photographers/videographers operate within an annual wedding cap e.g. a limit of 25 weddings for the year. So, when deciding when to book your wedding vendors, you’ll want to book them in early too!

  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;

           I recommend that you do some research to find out which photographers and videographers have a portfolio that suits your preferred style, and then line a few up to interview them.

It was a beautiful way to involve their mothers and to acknowledge the unwavering support and love that mothers contribute to ceremonies and everyday life.

Just recently I have had the pleasure of officiating a ‘surprise’ wedding ceremony where only the witnesses and a couple of guests were aware that the 30th birthday gathering they were at was going to be a wedding. Once the shock of the ‘surprise’ announcement wore off a bit, the sheer joy of the unexpected celebration was so worth it for this gorgeous couple and their family and friends.
